Re: New to LOTRO - Malbordir - 03 Oct, 07

Guardian - Fun to play as you tank the biggest badest mobs Smile , over populated, crap in pvp, under dps, no variance only good at tanking(with a healer)

Champion - Great dps, Heavy armour, off tank, tank if needed w/shield, decent pvp

Captain - good dps, pet, amazing buffs, heal is ok but cannot depend on it in a grp, decent pvp

Burgler - average dps, good for groups using fellowship attacks, good pvp, good CC

Minstrel - hard to solo sometimes, low dps, needed for grps, needed in pvp, nice hats

Lore master - good dps, pet, off healer but cannot depend in grp and cure DOT's, good dps, great CC, great pvp

Hunter - great dps (learn how to moderate) average CC, er did i say DPS, great pvp, i also played a hunter in WoW lvl 70 and well it was reall good fun with the traps and pet etc but the hunter in lotro doesnt apeal to me.

All my own view so anybody please dont take offense  ;D

Re: New to LOTRO - Malbordir - 03 Oct, 07

TBH if i had the chance to change my class or have a lvl 50 alt, i would want either a Chapion, captain or minstrel.

Minstrel cus ive never been a healer and would be nice to have an alt to help out like that, usualy i dont get asked to tank much as there are plenty around.

Captain cus the variance and support in a group it offers, always nice to have 1 captin in the grp, 2 are even better.

Champion, cus well, heavy armour, shield, dual wield and dps is what i wanted my Guardian to have, i was kind of disapointed with Guardian as i did play a little warrior in WoW (main was hunter) and i thought it would be nice to be able o spec for dps or tnaking but im stuck just to tnaking. Dont get me wrong though i have a blast tanking its real good fun  ;D

Re: New to LOTRO - Andoze - 03 Oct, 07

Have been doing some reading and thinking ...

So far I have come up with Loremaster (since that class soon cool to me) and to that I where thinking about explorer since the kin have master in all skills so I did think that way I will be able to collect the rare matirals to most items that I could need (metal and wood, and of course help somebody out that have got stuck in skilling up and would need wood or metal) and can make armor for myself ... could be that I'm missing something out here ... since I haven't been in the game yet ...

but thats my plan so far ... so my question now is ... Elf or Human? any major diffrens between those to races ... positive and negativ ... both info is welcome ... everything from how they look in the game, their emotes, how cloth armor weapon looks on them ... to how their stats are diffrent in the game.

over and out for now .. will check back in a bit ;-)

(most say that I love the response here)

Re: New to LOTRO - Aegoros - 03 Oct, 07

Well i do like the Human starters area more Smile
You end up quite close to one of the biggest populated citty naming BREE.

They have got it al there, for the rest i think there are some diference in there

Elf  + Agility  - Fate  - Maximum Moral - Morale Regeneration in combar + Resistence from Decease + Resistance from Poison

Man + Might  - Will  + fate + Morale When inspired

Those are called the racial modifiers Smile
If you want to be able to handle decease's and poison better, you best take the Elf.
If you want to feel stronger when surounder by a group or a captain, take the Man Smile

How they look, that is just evry body elses opinion i think they both got there plus and minus points.
Some robes just look awesom on Human, and not on elf.

Re: New to LOTRO - Edatain - 03 Oct, 07

Only differneces are the starting positions. And elves are more sterotypically to the LM class. But at the end of the day, chose which race suits you best

Re: New to LOTRO - Aegoros - 03 Oct, 07

well i like the Human LM more then the Elf, elf are more hunters to me Smile

And dont forget the Racial Modifiers Ed, thats also a diference.

Re: New to LOTRO - Malbordir - 03 Oct, 07

i like the race of men but tbh i think LM is suited more to an elf.

Personally, I love the Hobbit starting area.  If you're a fan of the books there's nothing quite like it.

Kinda contradicts with my earlier comment about being a Captain though!

You can always skip the Archet starting area and ask one of us to summon or escort to the shire and start there Smile or do them both, enough pie n beer for all

Re: New to LOTRO - Susprina - 04 Oct, 07

disregarding appearance and whether you have a preference on race

MAN > ELF

There are some petty abilities that both get.

but ...

Man gets at later levels a 3000 morale self heal, (on an hour cooldown) which basically makes you for a single fight, pretty unkillable if you want to solo stuff.

Although I hardly use it, as burglars have a lot of tricks at their disposal, including some small self heals for several hundred, plus a 1000 morale heal with +50 dodge bonus for 30 seconds if I get stunned.. add that to the human 3000 point heal, means I can acheive some pretty incredible stuff if I put my mind to it.
