Methrendomir - Level 6 Captain, Man of Gondor

I have decided to leave my home.  The Steward, Denethor, has disgraced me and sent me to work as a labourer on the fields, and I'm afraid I cannot obey him and waste my talents on such a mundane task.

I was once a proud captain of Gondor, I reported directly to Denethor himself and was a good friend of his second son, Faramir.  Many a time did I serve the rule of Gondor, defending our lands against our ever-increasing foes.  But the people of Gondor are blinkered, trusting implicitly in the rule of the Steward, not questioning his decisions or motives.  Gondor was once a proud nation, protecting itself and others against the wilds and noone would stand in our way, but now we seem to be so very introspective, serving our own needs and not the needs of the world at large.  Denethor himself seems to be more and more reclusive; I see in his troubled eyes the pressures of a man who no longer believes he is in control of the destiny of his land.  Often he will try to hide it, but occasionally I see past his guard and see how scared he really is.  No King of Gondor would show his fear in such a manner.

Denethor would pretend to be King, even he believes he has every right to be King and he rules like a King.  He dreams of an heirloom of Isildur's which he thinks is his by right.  Why, I suspect he even has intentions to take up the throne of Gondor for his own, but I do not believe he is worthy of that honour.  His tactical decisions are becoming ever more irrational.  He treats Faramir with contempt, sending him out on ever more futile missions while giving his eldest son Boromir the glory missions.  Why can the people of Gondor not see through this man Denethor?

I'll tell you why.  For a start, very few people now get to meet him; he hides away in that tower of his until late at night, and sees only his sons and a few select people.  He refuses to attend public events.  And the few captains that are allowed to see him?  Well, if they disagree with his judgements, or dare to argue against him.... well, look at what happened to me; banished to working on tilling the earth and tending the crops, even though my real talents lie with rallying armies to fight in the ever-increasing number of battles that face us.

Well, I cannot sit by and watch the free peoples of Middle Earth succumb to darkness without fighting it.  I cannot do my duty here in Gondor, so I shall leave and try to be of service elsewhere.

----------

My goal is to set up an Alliance of the Free Peoples of Middle-Earth to fight against the arising Enemy, in all his forms.  This is my application (although a little bit of a formality of course!)

(ooc)  I'm a 28 year old Database Architect currently living in Worcestershire, UK, with my wife and two daughters aged 2 and 1.  I aim to play mainly in the evenings, but obviously, may not have the time to progress as fast as some other members.  Nevertheless, I shall endeavor to make a fine Kinship leader, and when the time comes for elections I shall gladly step aside if people feel another would make a better leader!  I have some previous experience as a hunter in World of Warcraft, playing regularly for about 9 months and was a member of the respected RP guild 'Ebon Flame' on the Moonglade server.
