I think we should present a range of options and put them to a vote, points systems included. It's not that I don't think a points system can work, just that I think it needs to be well balanced to be fair to both those who attend regularly and the more infrequent participant.

I fully agree with Kairos that the Rift system we had wasn't perfect and the biggest problem it faced was that some people could go week after week needing only one item and not win it, sometimes a non-kinnie would win it instead. For those of you who weren't in the kin when we used to do regular Rift runs I don't want to make it look like the system we used there was perfect, it wasn't.

Perhaps we could have two or three different options for a poll so everyone can see the pros and cons of each and decide on which they'd prefer. That way we all know the downside of each system upfront and can go forward with it knowing what to expect.

There isn't, really, a range of options. The options are either (a) a point system, however defined, or (b) a free roll on every item, with armour coins and teals limited to one per evening.

What I meant was present all the options, including different points systems.

I've been having a bit of a think about this and would like to suggest the following system for consideration:

Each person who attends the raid would be given one point. These points can be used to purchase an extra roll on any item of loot. Each re-roll costs one point. Everyone in the raid can roll on each item of loot once for free (assuming they don't already have it).

Using this system I think we could strike a decent balance between fairness and simplicity. On the one hand the regular participants are given a slight advantage in that they can accumulate points to buy extra rolls on items they really want/need and at the same time everyone gets to roll at least once on an item they don't have, which means that casual participants or random people we pick up still have a chance to win something. It also means that as the weeks go by and people begin to need just one or two items they can target their rolls and give themselves a better chance of winning that item. New members of the raid shouldn't be put off because they at least have a chance of winning something and indeed are given an incentive to come back because they will acquire another point.

Points would be awarded and used as follows:

Every person who turns up and enters the raid is awarded one point. If someone drops out at the beginning of the raid, say before the first boss is down, they don't receive their point for that evening. People called into replace someone who drops out at any point in the raid are awarded one point for coming along.

Points are awarded at the end of the evening and thus can be used in the next DN raid to take place.

Points are per account and can be used on any toon.

Points can only be awarded as above, no extra deductions or awards.

You can buy as many rolls as you have points for. Of course once spent you will have to gain more points to buy more rolls.

Allows people who raid every week a good chance of wining an item the need but also allows casual raiders to participate with out thinking theres no chance they could win something.
Buying an extra roll makes it still about chance just that thoses that have attempted seveal runs have slightly better odds

Oh, sweetness, Belegwe! Simple, easy to learn, gives an advantage to regulars, without it being overbearing, and it allows non-regulars and off-kinnies to come along without feeling they have no chance of getting anything material out of it.  I'm a big fan of the idea of points buying rolls. All in one, it seems, and I like it!

Nice idea Bele. I like and wouldn't be against that being implemented.

Just one thing whatever's decided, perhaps we could have a simple one paragraph synopsis of whatever system is used that's on the website and then can be copy & pasted to any non-kin raiders whenever they join so it won't be a surprise when they see 20+ rolls on a loot item! I realise this is fairly obvious but a generic text would be good.

You're a genius Belegwe, but ofcourse you knew that already. I've been thinking about a point system that would increase chances, instead of prioritizing, but couldn't come up with something simple. Two questions though... One, when do you imagine someone decides the amount of rolls he makes? For example I wouldn't buy an extra roll if someone already rolled 95, which probably skews the numbers somehow. So perhaps announce the amount of rolls you make before rolling (might also be easier to keep track of)?
Two, do we give every participant a point, or only those who haven't won anything significant?

You would decide to buy extra rolls after everyone has made the free roll. If someone rolls a 95 you will have to weigh up whether it's worth spending points to get more rolls. That's the whole idea though because it means that a casual raider can still be in with a shot of winning an item. If someone rolls really high you may decide not to bother because you will be afraid of wasting points on the other hand you may decide to go for it.

Each participant gets a point at the end of the night. The only people who don't get a point are those who signed up and didn't make it or who had to pull out very early e.g. before the first boss is down. At least that's how I envision it. I think that's fair because it dissuades people from bailing early and rewards people who come in to help us at the last minute. It also rewards people who come to help us with the last boss etc after all the other loot has already gone.

Of course suggestions, criticism, comments are welcome.
