Sothwyn's Application

#1

1. NAME: Veronica

2. AGE: 24

3. COUNTRY OF RESIDENCE: England

4. TIMEZONE: GMT

5. PREVIOUS MMORPG EXPERIENCE: I played Dark Age of Camelot very briefly for a couple of months, Final Fantasy XI for about a year and a half, and World of Warcraft for three years.

6. PREVIOUS LOTRO EXPERIENCE: I've been playing about 8 months on the European servers, and briefly played for a month on the US servers while I was getting my feet wet.  Smile

7. HAVE YOU BEEN A MEMBER OF OTHER KINSHIPS?: Was in The Last Banner, and they were a lovely RP kinship with some excellent roleplayers with whom I will still keep in contact. However, the kinship was a little small, and rarely had any more than two players on at any given time (though there were far more). Plus, they were so heavily RP that I've found it difficult receiving any help for quests or larger fellowship quests from within the kinship: probably my strongest point of contention.

8. YOUR MAIN CHARACTER

Sothwyn, 37 Champion, with a mish-mash of quest gear and swords crafted by friends/kinship members

9. YOUR ALTS, IF ANY
Faeridhren, 14 Minstrel

10. HOW DID YOU HEAR ABOUT TWA?
Honestly, I heard about it when I first started LotRO. I had done a search for kinships and I was very surprised at how large and active the forums for the kinship were, even a few months ago!  Aldarich (who applied a little earlier than I today) and I were looking for a kinship to call home, and we had decided to choose either The Western Alliance and The Last Banner. I was in favor of a heavier RP focused guild,  and Aldarich agreed to come with me to give The Last Banner a try first. He met more of you as he quested on his own whilst I was searching for RP. When we both talked over how we felt about our previous kinship, we decided it was time to move on and try our other choice: The Western Alliance.

11. DO YOU KNOW ANY CURRENT TWA MEMBERS?
Aside from Aldarich who is currently applying, I do not.

12. ABOUT YOURSELF
I'm an American who has moved to England to attend graduate school on a one-year MA program in Japanese Studies. It probably seems a bit unusual to move to the UK to study Japan, but I'm very excited about my program, and it's actually faster and more cost-effective to do my MA here than in the United States or even Japan. Plus, I LOVE the weather here, even if it seems to be constantly drizzling outside. Wink

I love fantasy and sci-fi books and films, and back in the States I'm part of a small video game music cover band (which takes up most of my time and money, but in an excellent way!)

13. ABOUT YOUR MAIN
Sothwyn was born and raised in the southern regions of Rohan, in a small town called Upbourn. Her father was a former Rider of the Riddermark who fell ill in his youth, and lost the strength to ride. Shamed, but still loyal, he and his family devoted most of their trade to manufacturing weapons and equipment for both the Riders and their horses. Sothwyn's elder brother, Beornwulf, shared no desire to follow in his father's footsteps in a warrior tradition and, instead, left the family to move to Edoras and apprentice with a horse-breeder.

Fascinated by her father's stories of riding with the Riders, Sothwyn urged him to instruct her in combat. Like many women of Rohan, Sothwyn was trained in how to defend herself with a blade. Under instruction, she showed a fair amount of potential to learn more, and started to train in two-weapon combat. Yet despite her potential as a warrior, she was continually refused entry or even an apprenticeship among the Riders of the Riddermark. After growing discontent with the Riders as well as her family (who had begun to pressure her into marriage), she left.

Travelling through Rohan, Sothwyn encountered Aldarich, a friend of her brother, who briefly apprenticed with the same horse master that now employs Beornwulf. Seeking experience in combat rather than reading of it in books, Aldarich joined with Sothwyn and the two journeyed West.

14. I AM SOMEWHAT INTERESTED IN RAIDING: I would LOVE to give the world of raiding in LotRO a try, but my primary commitment will be to my graduate studies, so I can't vouch for my availability to raid. Also, I realize there are many, MANY more champions in the kinship already, and that my own chances of participating in one are low at this point. I'm okay with being passed up on raiding opportunities, though I'd like to taste it once I get to 50 and become more well-equipped.

15. I AM VERY INTERESTED IN FELLOWSHIP QUESTS:
Fellowship quests are what I've been aching to do in LotRO since I started playing. I work best in smaller groups, they work better with the time I will likely have available to play, and will hopefully give more experience to become a champion who works best in a group instead of a leveling duo. (Just as fun, but I've got to learn to excel at my class at some point in the near future! Wink )

16. I AM EXTREMELY INTERESTED IN RP & RP EVENTS: RP and RP events are still what I love most about LotRO. I love pub-crawls, informal RP events, occasional planned RP events, and just general in character interaction.

Thank you all for the replies and encouragement!

Siosmos, I will try to look for you in game either tonight, Saturday, or Sunday evening if time permits. I'm afraid I will be incommunicado next week for about 7 days, starting on Monday, as I will be moving up to my university (and will not have internet access on my laptop).  I do hope I can talk to you before then!  Smile
