Dancing with squirrels - An application from a lost dwarf

(This post was last modified: 12 Mar, 10, 22:26 by Modsogne.)

Under a crooked and snow covered pine tree in Ered Luin, a strangely shaped lump of snow starts to crack and move. A curious squirrel comes to inspect and climbs to the top. A few inches below the surface, the squirrel suddenly spots the contours of a giant pine cone and instantly starts to dig in the loose snow. The cone turned out to be of a different shape and seemed much softer than any cone the squirrel had ever seen. " But food is food, and I must admit, I'm very hungry"  the squirrel thought to himself. So after looking around to see if any of his relatives had spotted him and his giant catch, he bent down and took a deep bite of what seemed to be the most juicy part of the cone. The affect of this action was one which the squirrel had never experienced before, and due to the shock it gave him, he would most likely never experience it again.
As he had bit through the soft tissue and hit something hard, the entire ground started to shake and move. Warm air started to blow out of two big holes just below where he had bit. A split second later another hole opened and noise, very much like the roar he had heard a few weeks earlier when one of those strange two-legged creatures had dropped a box on the little toe of his left foot, was cried out in the air. The squirrel thought to himself that this probably wasn't a very good sign and as quickly as an arrow leaves the string of a bow, he climbed up to the top of the tree where he sat and watched the spectacle going on below him. For out of the snow heap came a head. A big head with black hair and a a set of two very angry-looking eyes. The head was followed by two hands, one holding an axe and the the other holding a big drinking horn. The squirrel started to laugh. Because he had now realized what he had done. He had mistaken the nose of a dwarf for a pine cone! Wait till my brothers hear about this!, he thought to himself and quickly jumped to a close-by tree and disappeared into the forest. Below the tree the dwarf had managed to pull his body out of the snow and was now resting against the tree trunk. He looked very ill. His eyes were bloodshot and his complexion was nearly as white as the snow in which he sat. The dwarf leaned his head against the tree and whispered to himself "Ah. My head..." He looked around and noticed the horn he was holding. "By uncle Fornbogi's great nose hairs. That was a good farewell party! But what happened?». «And where is uncle?». He closed his eyes again. The brightness of the snow was just too much to bear. His lips were dry and the storm roaring in his stomach felt like it needed an exit valve.  Quickly. "How much did I drink?" He thought to himself and shook his drinking horn. To his amazement he heard that there was still atleast a mouthful of ale left. As his head was banging as hard as ever and his stomach turned in every direction, he opened his left eye, peered at the drinking vessel he was holding... And drank the two-year old ale residuals like it was fresh from the keg. "Ahhh...Nothing like a good drink after a hard night of...drinking!"
And so Modsogne Tyrving awoke from his long alcahol-induced sleep, and is again wielding his axe and cup of ale in the service of good!

Welcome
If by life or death I can save you, I will.

"You see, there's this thing called aggro."
"What's aggro?"
"It's a very complicated, very technical roleplaying expression. Loosely translated, it means 'the healer dies'."
