  New raiding program
Posted by: Kairos - 12 Nov, 10, 16:47 - Replies (2)

For the foreseeable  future, the main kinship raiding activity will continue to concentrate on Barad Guldur, but we will also be taking on the new Helegrod end-raid on Thorog once a week. I have just posted two new polls which will run for four days from tonight. One is to see whether there is in principle a majority in favour of changing from our current main raiding nights of Monday and Thursday, and the other is to determine which of three nights (Saturday, Sunday or Wednesday) members would like to have the new Helegrod raid.

It would have been tidier to run them one after another rather than simultaneously, but a lot of members are anxious to get started on Thorog, so I thought it best to get the ball rolling as soon as possible. If the results of the two polls do end up being in conflict with one another, I'll post a third one to finalise the schedule.

Please vote only if you have a direct interest in the results of one or both of the polls (i.e., you already raid regularly, or plan to).

  Instance locks
Posted by: Kairos - 09 Nov, 10, 09:34 - Replies (3)

As most of you are aware, there are provisional instance locks for Helegrod and the Great Barrow, but they are one-off; in other words, before you can get to Thorog, you need to have completed the Giant, Spider and Drake Wing deeds at least once (and once only) and the Maze and Water Wings in order to reach Sambrog. According to the dev diary, "We ripped out all of the raid-locks, and instead there is now a deed that is completed by defeating the bosses of the three 12-man wings. Each character must have this deed completed before they are able to fight Thorog. It is a one-time personal gate. Once completed, that character can always access the dragon fight. In addition, once the dragon is unlocked you can play him as often as you wish".

However, you need to update your character stats on our forum as you complete these deeds, or you won't be able to sign up for the relevant kinship raids. So just as with changes in your radiance, you have to go to "Kinship Members", find your character, and tick off whichever of the GB or Hele instances you have completed - or simply click "edit" in the Your Characters panel on the front page.

  Raiding schedule after F2P
Posted by: Kairos - 31 Oct, 10, 08:11 - No Replies

Following Monday's assault on the Lieutenant of Barad Guldur, regular raiding will be suspended for a week to allow everyone to check out all the new content. The next BG raid will be scheduled for Thursday 11 November, and I am provisionally posting a Helegrod raid for Monday 8 November so that we can see what that's like.

On Friday 12 November I will post one or possibly two polls to see what the kinship response to the new raid is like; whether we would like to pursue both Helegrod and BG simultaneously (this would mean three or possibly four raid nights/week) or else on alternate weeks; and finally, whether a majority would like to see a change in the raid nights (currently Mondays and Thursdays). Bottom line: nothing will be decided until everyone has had a chance to check out the new material and we have discussed all the alternatives.

  Raid Leaders wanted!
Posted by: Kairos - 11 Oct, 10, 10:34 - Replies (5)

Would you like to try your hand at leading a raid? All that is needed is willingness to try, a reasonable knowledge of the game and some prior experience of the raid itself. We are looking to get a few of our regular raiders leading raids, with the emphasis currently on Barad Guldur. Raid leader slots are available for all or any of the following: The Gauntlet, Durchest (HM), Zone II , The Twins (HM) and Zone 3. If you would like to try leading on any of these sections of the BG raid, post a message to that effect in the regular kinship raid threads, or tell me at the start of the raid. Thor or I will normally be along to provide advice and suggestions as necessary.

  Looting restrictions lifted
Posted by: Kairos - 21 Sep, 10, 10:52 - Replies (3)

On 11 August, I proposed limiting rolls on certain Barad Guldur armour items with a view to building up the radiance of regular members of the raiding group. After some debate and a number of caveats, the proposal was implemented, with the disposal of two items (Gloves and chest-pieces) effectively left to the discretion of the raid leader. At the time, I had added the rider that  "this limitation will be lifted when a total of 14 active, regular members of the raiding group have at least +145 radiance". I am happy to announce that almost exactly one month later, this target was achieved, and that the current radiance status of regular raiders is as follows:

+170: Tharelon
+160: Belegwe, Earglin, Kairos, Maconabo, Skjalar
+155: Bealeth, Hrothgar, Seregdin
+150: Baradien, Hellarius, Jackdir, Thoronthor
+145: Indo

Four currently inactive members of the raiding group also have radiance of +145 or higher. Looting restrictions are therefore now lifted, and free rolls will apply to all items, subject to the usual kinship rules.
